Overview

The largest clinical area for vascular surgeons in the United States is the treatment of patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Designed by vascular surgeons, the SVS Complex Peripheral Vascular Intervention (CPVI) Skills Course will support attendees to become familiar with the latest innovations and techniques in treating patients with PAD. This 2-day course is comprised of didactics, case-based learning, and extensive hands-on training that gives vascular surgeons the opportunity to practice the latest procedures on cadavers and benchtop models during small-group simulations.

Some of the focus areas covered are:

  • Retrograde tibial & pedal access
  • Pedal loop imaging and techniques
  • Deep venous arterialization
  • IVUS axial imaging
  • Atherectomy devices
  • Aspiration/peripheral thrombectomy catheters
  • Re-entry devices
  • Closure devices
  • Percutaneous fem-pop bypass

PLEASE NOTE: Fluoroscopic procedures utilizing c-arms will be performed during the hands-on training of the course. Attendees will be provided with lead aprons and thyroid shields at stations where fluoroscopic procedures will be performed.

Learning Objectives

By participating in this CME activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Review guidelines for the treatment of PAD including the recent Global Vascular Guidelines.
  • Apply novel and advanced endovascular technologies for long-segment recanalization, angioplasty, atherectomy and other treatments for extensive atherosclerosis using benchtop models and simulation.
  • Discuss gaps in outcomes data for CLTI and generate viable research steps to address these gaps.

Who Should Attend

Vascular surgeons at any career stage and other specialists who wish to remain current in the specialty of vascular surgery and endovascular therapy. The level of the course content is intermediate to advanced.

Official Partner:

Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery

While the CPVI course is for vascular surgeons of any career stage, the SVS has partnered up with APDVS to give our up and coming vascular residents and fellows the opportunity to be mentored and coached by expert faculty and future colleagues in these intermediate and advanced techniques that they may not be exposed to in their programs.
