Fairman has become chair of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) Foundation, the charitable arm of the SVS. He has served as president of the Society for the past 12 months.
“The Foundation is entering an exciting phase,” Dr. Fairman said. “Our mission is widening. I am fortunate to be serving at a time when we are expanding resources to assist with fundraising and grant writing, and as we start doing more to support patient education, patient advocacy and vascular health awareness.”
“The Foundation’s commitment to supporting vascular research remains strong, and is fundamental to our success as healers,” he said. “The future for research funding has seldom been so uncertain and vascular researchers and our members look to us to provide support for the most innovative ideas and investigations.”
Dr. Fairman will oversee the foundation’s competitive, peer-reviewed, grant-making initiatives, which are made possible by contributions from members, medical societies and corporations, including the Society for Vascular Surgery, American College of Surgeons, American Podiatric Medical Association, Eastern Vascular Society, Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society, New England Society for Vascular Surgery, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, Southern Association for Vascular Surgery, Vascular & Endovascular Surgery Society and the Western Vascular Society.
Dr. Fairman is chief of vascular surgery and endovascular therapy at the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Medicine. He has a dual faculty appointment, as Clyde F. Barker–William Maul Measey professor in surgery and professor in radiology.
