Leadership Development Program Mentor Fellowship
The SVS and the Leadership Development Committee are pleased to offer a new advanced leadership opportunity for experienced vascular surgeons who are graduates of the SVS Leadership Development Program (LDP).
The SVS Leadership Development Mentor Fellowship establishes a trained pool of vascular surgeon mentors who support participants in the Leadership Development Program through coaching, mentoring and engagement. This Fellowship offers a structured way for experienced LDP alumni to contribute to the program while continuing their own leadership development to strengthen their mentoring and coaching skills.
Each year, a small cohort of vascular surgeon LDP graduates are selected to serve as LDP Mentor Fellows.

Who Should Apply
- Graduates of the SVS Leadership Development Program who are:
- Vascular Surgeons approximately 10 years out of training preferred
- Vascular Surgeons interested in coaching, mentoring and leadership development
- Surgeons seeking a meaningful way to give back to LDP and the specialty

Applicants must complete a short application (approx. 10 minutes) outlining:
- Your interest in serving as an LDP Mentor Fellow
- Plans to continue leadership development
- How they will apply their skills to serve SVS and the specialty
Benefits and Recognition
LDP Mentor Fellows receive:
- Receive structured training and hands-on experience through:
- An evidence-based coaching competency training webinar
- One-on-one training through observation, Q&A, and feedback with Leadership Mentors
- Progressive responsibility as a mentor and coach over time
- Remain actively connected to the LDP community, faculty and leadership through exclusive opportunities, including an annual complementary invitation to the coaching competency webinar and more!
- Are acknowledged in SVS materials
Funding and Support
Fellows will receive $2,000 in funding to support travel to LDP sessions and continued leadership education and skill development. Any travel expenses beyond the funding amount are the responsibility of the LDP Mentor Fellow.
Participation Requirements
- Prepare and attend all LDP sessions; engage with cohort members
- Mentor participants on leadership case studies and career development topics
- Participate as co-faculty when needed
- Lead or contribute to online discussions
- Observe and learn from experienced Leadership Mentors through guided coaching experiences
Term and Time Commitment
The Mentor Fellowship is a four-year term with a total time commitment of less than one week spread across four years.
Year 1
- Attend all LDP sessions
- Participate in LDP as Co-Faculty if needed, lead online discussions
- Observe coaching activities
- Mentor cohort members on case studies
- Estimated time commitment: ~5 days
Years 2-3
- Attend coaching competency webinar
- Participate in coaching calls and serve as LPI and Career Coach Mentor
- Estimated time commitment: up to 4.5 hours per year
Year 4
- Serve as a backup Mentor if needed
- Likely minimal or no time commitment
