Amidst the excitement of National Nurses Week (May 6-12), the Society for Vascular Nursing (SVN) prepares to honor the contributions of vascular nurses within the healthcare sphere.
Kristen Alix, MS, ANP-BC, AGACNP-BC, CVN, the 2023-2024 SVN president, expressed her excitement about the upcoming celebrations and highlighted the essential role of vascular nurses in patient care.
"National Nurses Week is a time to acknowledge the remarkable efforts of our vascular nursing community," Alix stated. "Vascular nurses play a crucial role in improving patient outcomes and enhancing the quality of vascular care delivery."
The SVN's year-long celebrations include various events and activities to honor vascular nurses and promote professional development within the field. From educational seminars to networking opportunities, the festivities provide a platform for vascular nurses to connect, learn and share their experiences. The SVN extends quarterly virtual roundtable discussions as a complimentary benefit to its members, with the upcoming session slated for May 15, focusing on "Connective Tissue Disorders, Vascular Disease and Genetic Testing." Heather Perne, NP-C, CWS, from the University of Toledo, will be the guest speaker. For more information, visit vascular.org/SVNroundtables.
Commencing with National Nurses Day on May 6, National Nurses Week is pivotal in the broader National Nurses Month, observed throughout May. It serves as a catalyst for advocating the advancement of nursing practice and the enhancement of patient outcomes. Undeterred in its mission, the SVN remains resolute in nurturing a professional community for vascular and advanced practice nurses, dedicated to elevating the care standards for individuals grappling with vascular disease through evidence-based practice and education.
As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, Alix said the role of vascular nurses remains paramount in delivering high-quality care to patients with vascular conditions. SVN's celebrations for National Nurses Week underscore the organization's commitment to empowering vascular nurses and promoting excellence in vascular care.
"I joined as a novice bedside nurse, only expecting to glean knowledge of the vascular patient. There was that and so much more. SVN gives the ability to network with national nursing leaders, provides expert content and encourages individual professional growth. I never thought I would lecture nationally, serve on a Board of Directors, or add to vascular education and research. It is so much more than a society; it is a network of friends with a shared passion," said Alix.
SVN will convene its 42nd Annual Conference concurrently with the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) Vascular Annual Meeting (VAM) in Chicago from June 19-20. Attendees will enjoy two days packed with networking events, educational offerings and the latest research in vascular nursing. To learn more, visit vascular.org/SVN24.
