The Chicago-based Society for Vascular Surgery has announced it will relocate its headquarters to Rosemont, Ill., near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, as of March 1, 2019. The SVS is an international, not-for-profit professional medical society, serving specialty-trained vascular surgeons and allied professionals.
Before the end of the year, members will be able to connect in a big -- new -- way: our online community. To emphasize this linking together, we've named this new community SVSConnect.
Active SVS members in good standing are now eligible to add the initials FSVS™ after their names to designate themselves as Fellows of the Society for Vascular Surgery.
Vascular surgeons in a community practice think of themselves first and foremost as surgeons – not business people.
Yet they are indeed running a business, with payrolls, payment processing, background checks on potential employees, insurance issues, and many other tasks.
To improve access, efficiency and service to existing and future SVS members, the Society is now reviewing and approving membership applications quarterly, instead of yearly.
Surgeons can purchase discounts on vision and dental care for their personal use and as an employee benefit for their staff. The program is through Careington EyeMed Dental and Vision.
Take it on good authority from a recently approved Active Member regarding early career development: "Join the SVS," urges Jeffrey Siracuse, MD. "It’s a great opportunity to be involved, to learn, to make an impact."
In June 2017, the SVS Board of Directors approved bylaw changes that were ratified at the Annual Business Meeting, paving the way to review and approve membership applications throughout the year.
Thanks to requests and feedback from physician assistants, the SVS has created a new membership section for PAs. In just a short time, we have already seen a significant and heartwarming response from incoming members.
