Coding Course Set for October

Registration has opened for the 2017 Coding and Reimbursement Workshop for vascular surgeons, to be held Oct. 13 to 14 at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel in Chicago.

Cost is $880 for an SVS member or the staff of SVS members; $955 for non-members; and $250 for residents and trainees.

The intensive two-day program will address 2017 updates, including changes to endovascular stent placement outside the lower extremity and PQRS as well as coding for intravascular embolization and retrograde intrathoracic carotid stenting. Additionally, the course will review proposed updates for 2017 with a focus on reporting standards for interventional and open surgical procedures.

The program also includes information about the global surgical package and how it impacts billing and reimbursement, along with the application of modifiers for streamlined reimbursement.

An optional workshop on Evaluation and Management (E&M) coding will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 13. Cost is $100 for SVS members and staff, $125 for non-members; and $50 for residents and trainees.

Claim CMEs, MOCs from the Vascular Annual Meeting

Yes, the Mobile App made it convenient to take Maintenance of Certification self-assessment exams shortly after sessions ended at the Vascular Annual Meeting. But that doesn’t mean all attendees did that; perhaps another session was in the offing, or a reception, or other commitment on your time.

Here’s how you can claim your Continuing Medical Education or MOC credits.

  • Access the CME site, either through the Mobile App or through vsweb.org/ClaimeCME.
  • Log in, using either:
    • Last name and email address tied to your VAM registration OR
    • Registration ID number (no hyphens), located on registration confirmation or ID badges.
  • Follow the directions to list sessions, provide evaluations, take exams, and generate credit certificates. (Please note that the RPVI self-assessment process requires you to log in from a laptop or desktop computer.)

Credits must be claimed by Dec. 31, 2017.

Second Annual Joint Review Course set for August

Get an in-depth review of vascular surgery at the Second Annual UCLA/SVS Symposium: A Comprehensive Review and Update of What’s New in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.

The three-day course will be held Aug. 26 to 28 at the Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills, Calif.

The joint effort is aimed at those who are preparing to take the vascular board examinations plus also provides the basic didactic education for vascular residents and fellows in training. It recognizes four major pillars of vascular surgery practice: conventional open operations, endovascular surgery, medical aspects of patient management, and diagnostic imaging and noninvasive testing.

Progress made during year like no other

While the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects dominated 2020–21 fiscal year—including the cancellation of the live 2020 Vascular Annual Meeting (VAM)—it did not deter progress on many important initiatives. “When covid hit, it intensified our focus on what was truly important: our members, their patients and the SVS as their Society,” said Executive Director Kenneth M. Slaw, PhD. “That focus was sustained the past 15 months and it has led to innovation and an unprecedented volume of member value programs.” He outlined important highlights from the fiscal year that ended March 31—just more than a year after the pandemic was declared—and the vital initiatives that continue to move forward.

New SVS vice president, revised bylaws set to be unveiled at June 16 Annual Business Meeting

Members, be sure to register for the June 16 Virtual Annual Business Meeting, the first of two business meetings for 2021. Registration is required to assure A quorum. Register at vascular.org/ABM1Register. The second meeting will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, during the Vascular Annual Meeting (VAM). The Wednesday, June 16, meeting will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Central Daylight Time. Members will hear reports from President Ronald L. Dalman, MD, Secretary Amy Reed, MD, and Treasurer Keith Calligaro, MD. Nominating Committee Chair R. Clement Darling III, MD, will present his report, announce the results of the election for SVS vice president and on bylaws revisions, and introduce the 2021–22 Officers.
