After the turkey, after the frenzy of post-holiday shopping, do something for others by donating to the SVS Foundation on #Giving Tuesday.
#GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many people focus on holiday and year-end giving. The global day of giving was founded in 2012 and is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, on the heels of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping days.
This year, the expanded mission of the SVS Foundation provides even more reasons to give generously. In addition to the core commitment to funding basic and clinical research, the Foundation has widened its reach to add an emphasis on members in community practice, prevention and patient education and, ultimately, the public’s vascular health.
These important extensions create a true "bench-to-bedside" arc highlighting that the work funded for research, prevention and public education ultimately impacts the most important focus of the SVS and the SVS Foundation: patients.
Enjoy the turkey and yams. Take advantage of sales to buy your holiday gifts. And on #GivingTuesday, think of the patients you treat and whose lives you’ve impacted – and donate to the SVS Foundation at vsweb.org/GivingTuesday.
Annual Report Highlights Bench to Bedside Work
Ask a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery why they do the work they do and most of them will offer the same answer: their patients. Eight-six-year-old Lucy who got to see six more holiday seasons after the care of her vascular surgeon. World War II vet George, who a decade ago pulled through surgery against all odds. The millions of diabetics, PAD and AAA patients and others with circulatory disease who just want to get better and feel better.
Our members who conduct research do so with George, Lucy and all the others in mind. Their goal at the research bench is to impact the patient at bedside with improved care that results from clinical breakthroughs.
