The Journal of Vascular Surgery (JVS) editorial team is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the next editor-in-chief (EIC) for the Journal of Vascular Surgery-Vascular Insights (JVS-VI). Dr. Ronald Dalman, executive editor of JVS publications, and Dr. Thomas Forbes, editor-in-chief of JVS, invite applicants to submit their applications before June 23.
“We are excited to recruit the next editor-in-chief to the JVS portfolio leadership team as a chance to build a new scientific communication platform for the next generation of vascular specialists. Primary requirements are a passion for accuracy and a vision for building readership for this entirely new publishing venture,” said Dr. Dalman.
Applicants can send a brief statement of interest (350 words) outlining relevant experience and qualifications to vascular.org/jvsvi-eic.
Prior service on the editorial board of one of the JVS publications is preferred but is not mandatory. Applicants must hold Active or Senior membership in the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) to be eligible. The chosen EIC will collaborate closely with the executive editor of the JVS Journals, the senior managing editor, the editorial office staff, Elsevier's publishing team and the EIC of companion journals.
The EIC's main role is to maintain academic excellence, which involves supervising the submission and peer-review process, making the final call on manuscript publication and encouraging the journal's growth by attracting high-quality submissions.
The EIC of the JVS-VI will expand submissions from external sources and continue to transfer relevant submissions to JVS-VI from other journals within the portfolio, such as promoting the journal within professional networks and on social media, as well as directly soliciting specific articles and commissioning virtual special issues (VSI) on pertinent topics. The inaugural VSI, focused on an education-related theme, is scheduled for launch by June 30. Guest Editors will collaborate with the EIC to ensure its success; a second VSI is planned for before the fourth quarter.
JVS-VI operates as a gold open-access journal. The ideal candidate should possess familiarity with the open-access publishing model and be able to effectively communicate the benefits of open-access publishing to authors and the broader research community.
Regular meetings with the editors-in-chief of the JVS companion journals and the portfolio's executive editor will be crucial to maintain consistency and coherence across the JVS portfolio. The relationship with JVS is of particular importance, given the potential overlap in article types and content areas between JVS and JVS-VI, as well as the primary role of JVS in internal transfers to JVS-VI. The JVS-VI EIC will work closely with the JVS EIC and portfolio executive editor to ensure a mutually beneficial relationship between the two journals and the overall portfolio.
The EIC position is an opportunity for a distinguished individual to shape the future of vascular surgery research and contribute to the success and growth of the journal. The SVS awaits applications from qualified candidates passionate about advancing the field and driving innovation in scholarly publishing.
