SVS Non-Exclusive License for Educational Work

I will create educational content, hereinafter referred to as the “Work,” and have agreed to offer it for the Society of Vascular Surgery (SVS) as an educational activity. I understand SVS may repurpose the Work and distribute via electronic access.

I grant to SVS a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to (a) publish, distribute and/or broadcast the Work, in whole or in part, in any present or future medium, including without limitation, in digital or print media, video, audio, part of an enduring activity, via the Internet or as part of an electronically searchable database, and (b) sub-license to any third party any of the rights granted to SVS in this agreement.

I hereby grant to SVS the rights to repurpose this Work as an educational resource according to the following terms:

  • I represent that (a) no part of the Work I created infringes upon any copyright or other intellectual property or proprietary right of any third party, (b) I have obtained appropriate permission to reprint any portion of content of which I am not the author, (c) I have not previously disposed of any of the rights granted to SVS in this agreement and (d) where material included in the content is not my own, I have cited the source from where I obtained the material.
  • I represent that should the Work contain any patientidentifiable information, I have obtained all necessary permissions and/or have adhered to all requirements under state and federal privacy laws and regulations (including the HIPAA privacy regulations).
  • If SVS repurposes and distributes the Work, I will be identified as the author or co-author, if applicable, of the Work and waive any right to financial compensation as a result of publication by the SVS.

Additionally, as a contributor to accredited education I attest:

  • I have disclosed all relevant financial relationships, and I will disclose this information to learners.
  • The educational content with which I am involved will promote quality or improvements in health care and will not promote a specific proprietary business interest of a commercial interest. Content for this activity, including any presentation of therapeutic options, will be balanced, evidence-based and commercially unbiased.
  • I have not and will not accept any honoraria, additional payments or reimbursements directly from a commercial interest for my participation in this activity.
  • I understand that the SVS will need to review the content prior to publishing this activity, and I will provide educational content and resources by the specified due date.
  • If I am providing recommendations involving clinical medicine, they will be based on evidence that is accepted within the profession of medicine as adequate justification for their indications and contraindications in the care of patients. All scientific research referred to will conform to the generally accepted standard of experimental design, data collection and analysis.
  • If I am discussing specific healthcare products or services, I will use generic names to the extent possible. If I need to use trade names, I will use trade names from several companies when available, and not just trade names from any single company.
  • If I am discussing any product use that is off label, I will disclose that the use or indication in question is not currently approved by the FDA.
  • If I have been trained or utilized by a commercial interest or its agent as a speaker (e.g. speaker's bureau) for any commercial interest, the promotional aspects of that presentation will not be included in any way with this activity.
  • If I am presenting research funded by a commercial interest, the information presented will be based on generally accepted scientific principals and methods and will not promote the commercial interest of the funding company.

Content Creators Responsibilities and Compliance Policy

Policy for all Content Creators

AI Policy

Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

  • Content creators may use generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies only to improve readability and language. These tools must never be used as a substitute for human critical thinking, expertise and evaluation. AI tools should always be applied with human oversight and control. If AI tools are used, content creators are responsible for carefully reviewing, verifying accuracy, comprehension, impartiality, and editing AI-generated output, recognizing that such tools may produce authoritative-sounding results that can be incorrect, incomplete, or biased.
  • Human responsibility: AI and AI-assisted technologies may not be listed or cited as an author, co-author, or creator. Authorship and content creation imply responsibilities and tasks that only humans can perform.
  • Figures, images, and artwork: Generative AI and AI-assisted tools used in figures, images, or artwork must adhere to SVS branding guidelines and the Elsevier AI policy.
  • Disclosure Instructions: Content creators must disclose the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process/creation of content process by adding a statement at the end of their manuscript/content/presentation, before the References list. The statement should appear in a new section entitled: “Declaration of the use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies”.
  • Required Statement Template: During the preparation of this work, the content creator(s) used [NAME TOOL / SERVICE] to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the content creator(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the work.

This declaration does not apply to the use of basic tools for checking grammar, spelling, references, or formatting. If there is nothing to disclose, no statement is required.

Task Compliance Process

  • Due dates will be clearly communicated through the invitation process.
  • Moderators/Course Directors/Leads/Section Editors are encouraged to reiterate due dates, so SVS receives 100% compliance.
  • Reminders will be sent out one to two weeks prior to all due dates and include the compliance policy. Moderators/Course Directors/Leads/Section Editors will be copied on these emails and encouraged to also follow-up with the content creator.
  • SVS Staff will keep the committee that oversees the activity and/or Council informed regarding compliance to all due dates by content creators.
  • Non-compliance to due dates will result in content creators being removed from the activity and potentially replaced by other content creators. If this occurs, content creators forfeit the right to participate in future SVS educational activity development. A determination will be made by the Chair of the Educational Council on a case-by-case basis.

For non-member content creators for all SVS Educational Activities including the Vascular Annual Meeting (VAM):

  • Honoraria will be withheld from content creators if the directors/session moderators/lead report that the content creator did not meet their obligations.
