RFA for JVS Associate Editor Position
Submission Deadline: July 20
Summary
The Journal of Vascular Surgery (JVS), the flagship journal of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS), invites applications for two Associate Editor (AE) positions. The successful candidates are expected to start by September 1, 2025, and will receive a quarterly honorarium.
About the Role
Associate Editors play a vital role in maintaining the scientific integrity and excellence of the JVS. Each AE is responsible for handling approximately 10–15 manuscript submissions per month, including:
- Overseeing the peer review process
- Evaluating reviewer feedback and author revisions
- Recommending editorial decisions to the Editor-in-Chief (EIC)
AEs also participate in regular editorial meetings with the JVS leadership team to coordinate processes, ensure consistency across decisions, uphold best practices, and collaboratively troubleshoot editorial challenges.
Qualifications
Applicants must be:
- Members of the Society for Vascular Surgery
- Experienced with the academic peer review process
- Committed to upholding the highest standards of scholarly publishing
Previous editorial experience is preferred but not required.
Areas of Special Interest
While applications from all qualified candidates are encouraged, we are especially interested in individuals with expertise in:
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning in vascular surgery
- Education and mentorship
- Social determinants of health
Terms of Service
The EIC appoints AEs, who will serve concurrently with the EIC's term, contingent upon performance and continued commitment. The current EIC is beginning a four-year term, with the potential for a two-year renewal, for a maximum of six years of service.
Conflicts of Interest
Per the SVS Policy on Conflict, JVS editors may have no direct financial relationships with industry during their terms of service. A direct financial relationship is a compensated relationship that should generate an IRS Form W-2, 1099, or equivalent income report. If the successful applicant currently has direct financial relationships with industry, these relationships must be terminated within six months of appointment. NB: JVS editors may accept research support as long as monies are paid to the institution where the research is conducted, not to the individual. Nevertheless, in all cases research support, uncompensated services, and other permitted relationships must be disclosed to the SVS. AEs should not have editorial leadership positions with other journals.
Application Process
Applicants must complete a brief online application form and share their current curriculum vitae (CV). Please send your CV to Carlee Green (cgreen@vascularsociety.org), Managing Editor of the JVS.
SVS is committed to a fair and inclusive selection process and values the contributions of diverse perspectives and experiences to the health of our scholarly journals and to our Society. We encourage qualified applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
