Board of Director Members
Rana Afifi, MD
Rana Afifi, MD, is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at UT McGovern Medical School and a nationally recognized expert in vascular and endovascular surgery, with a focus on complex aortic disease. She serves as Program Director of the Aortic Surgery Fellowship and Co-Vice Chair for Quality and founded the Women’s Vascular and Cardiac Health Interdisciplinary Initiative (WVACHI). Dr. Afifi is an accomplished researcher and educator and holds multiple leadership roles within the Society for Vascular Surgery and regional vascular organizations.
Bernadette Aulivola, MD
Bernadette Aulivola, MD, is a vascular surgeon, professor and director of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. She has made significant contributions to the field, particularly in venous disease and aortic aneurysms, and her research endeavors have resulted in numerous publications in medical journals.
Keith Calligaro, MD
Keith Calligaro, MD, is the chief of vascular surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. He received his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and has practiced for over 20 years. He has held the position of president in organizations such as the Eastern Vascular Society and the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery. He is the current President of the SVS.
Anahita Dua, MD
Anahita Dua, MD, is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and a nationally recognized leader in peripheral artery disease, limb salvage, and vascular research. She directs multiple clinical and research programs at MGH, including the Limb Evaluation and Amputation Program (LEAP), and founded the nation’s only comprehensive vascular surgery clinic for the homeless. An NIH-funded investigator, Dr. Dua’s research focuses on anticoagulation, thrombosis biomarkers, and precision thromboprophylaxis following revascularization. She has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications, edited five vascular surgery textbooks, and holds numerous national leadership roles in vascular surgery organizations.
Joe Hart, MD
Joseph P. Hart, MD, is a board-certified vascular surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery and Radiology in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His specialty interests include peripheral arterial occlusive disease, aortic aneurysms and dissections, cerebrovascular disease, vascular trauma, surgery for hemodialysis access, and acute care vascular surgery. He practices at Froedtert Hospital, Zablocki VA Medical Center, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and associated facilities, where he is recognized for expertise in dialysis access, arterial reconstruction, and endovascular interventions.

Peter Henke, MD
Peter K. Henke, MD, is the Leland Ira Doan Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan and the Veteran’s Administration Hospital. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Louisville, where he was honored with the Chairman’s Award for Personal Scholarship and the C. M. Edelen Award for best resident paper of the year in 1997. He is the past chief of surgery at the Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs, co-director of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Vascular Intervention Collaboration and the past President of the American Venous Forum.
Vikram Kashyap, MD
Vikram Kashyap, MD, is a vascular surgeon and the Frederik Meijer chair of the Meijer Heart and Vascular Institute, as well as the vice president for Cardiovascular Health at Corewell Health in Grand Rapids, Mich. Kashyap, has co-authored over 200 articles and book chapters, focusing on research areas such as atherosclerosis, thrombosis and cerebrovascular disease.
Matthew Menard, MD
Matthew Menard, MD, is the vascular and endovascular fellowship program director and co-director of the Endovascular Surgery Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). He is a vascular and endovascular surgeon at BWH and an assistant professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School (HMS). He authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications, and his interests include surgery for aortic aneurysms, arterial occlusive disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease and thoracic outlet syndrome.
Ross Milner, MD
Murray Shames, MD
Murray Shames, MD is the Chair of the Department of Surgery and serves as Professor and Chief for the Division of Vascular Surgery at the USF Health Morsani School of Medicine. Dr. Shames received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and completed his surgery residency at the USF College of Medicine. He completed his training with a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Sydney and a vascular disease fellowship at the Washington University St. Louis School of Medicine. Dr. Shames has received the annual Tampa's Best Doctor award four times since 2017.
