While the condition is considered rare, Everett said he regularly sees patients for aortic dissection. “As a vascular surgeon, I see a dissection of the lower portion of the artery, the descending portion, we see that a couple of times a month,” Everett said. “The cardiac surgeon who repairs the ascending portion, [they] probably see one or two a month. It depends upon the population.”
