SVS Held 2 Business Meetings in 2020

Two separate virtual Annual Business Meetings were scheduled for 2020. The first was held from 2 to 3 p.m. Central Daylight Time on Monday, June 15, and the second from 2 to 3 p.m. Central Daylight Time on Saturday, June 20. All members were invited and encouraged to attend the meetings; only Active and Senior members in good standing* were able to vote.

There was no registration fee for the Annual Business Meetings, it was open and free to all SVS Members.  Also, you did not have to register for the education program, which requires a fee, to register for the Annual Business Meeting sessions.  We also provided a document to assist with the registration process, providing screen shots and directions for each step, you may access using the link below.

Annual Business Meeting Session 1 : Monday June 15, 2020: 2 to 3 p.m. CDT

At the June 15 meeting, members voted on bylaw amendments that permit SVS to conduct business in virtual meetings and migrate the election for open Officer positions to online voting that permits all eligible voting members to engage in the election process.  A two-thirds majority of members present at the June 15 meeting was required to approve the bylaw amendments, which, once ratified, became effective immediately. Both the SVS Executive Board and the Strategic Board of Directors enthusiastically embraced the initiative to change the officer election process, as did members, who made it a Top 10 priority in a poll in January.

Following the vote on bylaw amendments, the SVS Nominating Committee introduced its vetted candidates for Vice President and Treasurer, two for each position. Information about the candidates, including a picture and written responses to questions from the Nominating Committee, were made available to guide members in their subsequent voting. The election opened the evening of June 15, and closed at 9 a.m. on June 20.

The SVS Foundation also gave its annual report and recognized Foundation award recipients.

Session 1 Agenda

Annual Business Meeting Session 2: Saturday June 20, 2020: 2 to 3 p.m. CDT

During the June 20 meeting, President Kim Hodgson provided a “State of the SVS” update, followed by the results of the election, and presentation of SVS Officers for FY 2020-2021. In the very unlikely event that the bylaw amendments were not approved June 15, the election of officers were to be held in accordance with existing bylaws at the June 20 meeting.

Additionally, members recognized the achievements of the Journal of Vascular Surgery publications and witnessed the virtual passing of the gavel from Kim Hodgson, MD., to Ronald Dalman, MD., as the new SVS President.
