Special Announcement from the Quality and Performance Measures Committee Regarding the Medicare Quality Payment Program for 2018

Dear SVS Members –

We are writing to all SVS Members to remind each of you, regardless of whether you are in academic or private practice, to check your eligibility for the Medicare Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) reporting in 2018. Last year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), send letters and reminders to all Medicare participating physicians to check their status for MIPS reporting. CMS is not providing any personal reminders for 2018. So, the SVS Quality and Performance Measures Committee has sent a special message to each SVS member on this topic.

SVS members can now use the updated CMS MIPS Participation Lookup Tool to check on their 2018 eligibility for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).

Just enter your National Provider Identifier, or NPI, to find out whether you need to participate in MIPS during the 2018 performance year. It will also show what groups you are affiliated with and their reporting status. For 2018, the performance year for quality measure reporting is 12 months; therefore, it is very important to check your status TODAY!!

For those SVS members who report to the MIPS program as part of a group, CMS has announced that physician practices/groups may now log into the CMS QPP website to check their 2018 eligibility for MIPS. After groups log in, they will be able to click into a details screen to see the eligibility status of every clinician in the group (based on their National Provider Identifier or NPI) to find out whether they need to participate during the 2018 performance year for MIPS.

The Quality and Performance Measures Committee would like to remind all SVS members that the penalties for not reporting under the Quality Payment Program in 2018, which includes MIPS, are increaing to 5 percent of your Medicare revenue in 2020. So, it is important to check your eligibility status, TODAY and to make plans for reporting. The Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) is a way to have all your quality measure reporting done for you and your group in 2018. Please contact VQI at ASAP to learn more about this one-stop for MIPS quality reporting.
