Developing Preoperative Risk Score for AAA

Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms risk scores, based on four variables, allows accurate prediction of 30-day mortality after repair, according to a study published in October’s Journal of Vascular Surgery. The risk factors, which authors say can be readily assessed in the emergency room, include age of 76-plus; confidence interval of 1.47-4.97; P=.011); creatinine concentration of more than 2.0 mg/dl; and systolic blood pressure ever less than 70 mm Hf.

Researchers wanted to develop a preoperative risk score to predict mortality after repair of a ruptured AAA. The article is open source through Oct. 31 at vsweb.org/JVS-RiskScore.

Slaw, PhD. “That focus was sustained the past 15 months and it has led to innovation and an unprecedented volume of member value programs.” He outlined important highlights from the fiscal year that ended March 31—just more than a year after the pandemic was declared—and the vital initiatives that continue to move forward.

New SVS vice president, revised bylaws set to be unveiled at June 16 Annual Business Meeting
