6th Annual Mock Oral Examination and 4th Annual Simulation and Technical Skills Assessment Program

The Society once again is offering the Mock Oral Examination at Midwestern Vascular 2017, September 7-9, 2017 at the Westin River North in Chicago.  The Mock Oral Exam provides trainees from across the Midwest an opportunity to experience the certifying exam format wherein they respond to several clinical scenarios in three different rooms from six examiners who are from across the various Midwest vascular surgery training programs as well as those in private practice. This will provide the examinees an opportunity to be examined by someone not from their training program. A feed-back session will provide the examinees an opportunity to interact with examiners and to improve exam taking skills. We urge you to avail this opportunity for your Vascular Surgery Trainees.

The MVSS Mock Orals program will include the Simulation and Surgical Skills Assessment Program.  In its fourth year, the Simulation and Surgical Skills Assessment Program will assess vascular fellow and resident skills in performing the following open and endovascular procedures: Carotid endarterectomy; Open repair abdominal aortic aneurysm; Femoral-popliteal artery bypass; EVAR; Iliac artery angioplasty and stent placement; Hemodialysis access placement; and End-to-side mismatched anastomosis.

Information has been sent to Program Directors and the Society is accepting registrations through June 12, 2017.  Please contact the Society's Administrative Offices for further information and program availability.

Plan to register your Medical Students for the 3rd Annual MVSS Medical Student Education and Participation Program, “Introducing Vascular Surgery as a Career Choice”.  The primary goal of the program is to introduce the specialty of vascular surgery as a career choice to students.  The program provides an excellent opportunity for student learners of all levels (first year medical students to fourth year medical students) to meet other learners with similar interests and provides students with the opportunity to meet members and leaders of the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society (MWVSS).  The primary training objective is to introduce vascular surgery simulation and skills training to medical students as a vehicle to enhance their educational experience during medical school and help direct them towards consideration of a career in vascular surgery.
