INTERNATIONAL TELEVASCULAR GAMES: Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Jun. 8, 2021
Mar 8 to May 28
Abstract Deadline:
May 28

The center of attention of this format is the creation of an international work group where the union of
ideas may collectively lead to the standardization of treatments for complex pathologies for which the
clinicians often do not have suitable guidelines. Sharing treatment choices and materials in a work group
may also be a form of medical-legal support (strength in numbers). A second opinion is key when the
treatment strategy is unclear. The goal is also to boost the method involving a second opinion by means of

The creation of a gaming or competition system may stimulate greater interaction, sharing, and comparison of ideas.

The format will be a webinar where challenging thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm treatment are deeply discussed. This educational platform has been created since 2020 by a non-profit union of young vascular surgeons from Italy. The group named Televascolare Group has already started telemeeting in 2016 as reported in one our first publications on Journal of Vascular Surgery (One- year experience of a regional service model of teleconsultation for planning and treatment of complex thoracoabdominal aortic disease. Chisci E, et al; Televascolare Toscana Group. J Vasc Surg. 2018 Mar;67(3):974-983).
The format is simple: competitors starts from an anonymized CTA to plan the possible treatment of a thoracoabdominal aneurysm. They hypothesize materials, steps, accesses, bailout-strategies, medical treatment, follow-up strategy and a deep discussion is enhanced by panelists.
The competitors will be selected on the basis of 5 different features: originality (0-10 points), choice of materials (0-10 points) procedural steps (0-10 points), planning skills (0-10 points), and global vision of the disease (0-10 points). The registration and participation in the competition is FREE for all participants. At the end of the competition (normally the webinar lasts 2 hours) there is a winner which is declared after a televote (a computerized balance from the vote of the audience and panelists is done). The award is a 4 weeks travel grant to the Hamburg AORTIC CENTER
