The SVS is proud to serve as a professional home and essential resource for more than 5,800 vascular professionals worldwide. The more we work closely together with vascular surgeons around the world, the more it is clear we are united by the common mission of optimizing outcomes for our patients through effective and appropriate prevention, diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease.
By fostering and enriching education and scientific discovery across the world, we are taking important steps to build and optimize a global health care system for vascular surgery as a specialty.
This is always an exciting time of year. We are approaching the opening of registration in early March for the 2018 Vascular Annual Meeting in Boston, Mass., USA. The 2018 VAM will have an updated program format, with focus on more interactive and small group sessions. We hope all SVS members will join us in Boston and spread the word to colleagues to please join us as well.
There has been a lot in the news lately about changes to U.S. immigration policy and the potential impact on international travel. SVS will be monitoring this carefully and updating information on its website to help support all those interested in attending VAM. As always, SVS stands ready to assist members who have questions, or who need letters of support or documentation to attend and participate at VAM. At SVS, our first and foremost concern is always ensuring our members are fully informed and supported in their work and endeavors. If you need assistance, please let us know.
As is often said, the only true constant in the world is change. No matter what changes are encountered in the future, SVS will remain steadfastly committed to its core values, and to its membership. The SVS leadership is proactively monitoring, preparing for and responding to both the challenges and opportunities that change will bring. The more we are united in purpose and voice as a specialty, and through our organizations, the steadier we will sail through any turbulent waters we encounter to brighter horizons.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment and support. Information on U.S. customs and border protection is available here.
International guests may upload a copy of the visa invitation letter during the registration process or obtain a copy here.
International Travelers from Visa Waiver Program Countries
Effective January 20, 2010, inbound travelers to the United States from Visa Waiver Program countries may be denied boarding by the airlines if they haven’t complied with the US Department of Homeland Security’s Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) program. ESTA, introduced in January, 2009, requires all international travelers from VWP countries to register in an online database. Previously, international travelers had to fill out an I-94W form before each trip, but ESTA seeks to streamline and update the process.
Now, international travelers to the United States must go to the ESTA web site and fill out an application before entering the country by air or sea. If approved, authorization is good for two years and can be renewed. Travelers no longer have to fill out an I-94W form before each trip. US officials say ESTA will speed up the process for travelers, enable customs officials to screen passengers in advance and improve security. VWP travelers who have not received an ESTA approval may be denied boarding.
The ESTA requirement does not affect US citizens returning from overseas, people from VWP countries traveling on a valid US visa, or travelers from non-VWP nations. For additional information, including the online application, please visit: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/
